This study aimed to analyze the mediating role of language skills in the relationship between home learning environment and social development in a sample of preschool children in Tehran. For this purpose, convenience sampling was employed to select 110 preschool children who responded to the language development test including the six skills of Picture vocabulary, Relational vocabulary, Oral vocabulary, Syntactic understanding, sentence imitation, and morphological completion. Their parents (mothers) responded to the test of the home learning environment (including an academic-educational environment and language improvement) and the test of social development (including children’s communicative-social skills). The variance-based partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS–SEM) was used for data analysis in PLS. The analysis of relationships in the structural model indicated that the home learning environment had significant effects on social development through language skills. Overall, the measurement model and the test of relationships between research structures confirmed the proposed research model. In conclusion, improving the home learning environment for children can enhance their social development by boosting language skills. The results and their implicit applications were discussed in this manuscript.
