The Comparison of early maladaptive schemas, cognitive emotion regulation strategies and psychological well-being in two groups of teenagers with and without a history of parental divorce

Abstract

This research aimed to compare early maladaptive schemas, psychological well-being and cognitive emotion regulation strategies in two groups of teenagers with and without a history of parental divorce. The research method was descriptive and comparative. The statistical population included all teenage girls who were studying in secondary school in Tehran in the academic year of 1400-1401. A total of 240 students were selected to complete the questionnaires using multi-stage cluster sampling. The research tools included Rijekboar and Debo Children's Schema Questionnaire (SIC), Garnefsky and Kraij's Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire (CERQ) and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RSPWB).One- way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to examine the difference between the two groups . The findings showed that The average score of teenagers who experienced parental in loneliness, dominance, defectiveness, failure, vulnerability and the total score was higher than teenagers without parental divorce experience. Also, the average score of teenagers with parental divorce experience in choosing acceptance strategies, positive refocusing, planning, self-blaming and rumination was higher than the other group. On the other hand, the average score of teenagers without parental divorce experience in using positive communication strategies, independency and total well-being score was higher than teenagers without parental divorce experience.
