Purpose: The present research was conducted to identifying the role and status of the daughter in-laws in the In-law family. Method: The research method is applied and qualitative with an interpretive phenomenological approach. The study sample included 12 married women in Tehran, who were selected by purposeful and snowball sampling. A semi-structured interview was conducted, then it was implemented verbatim and analyzed according to the method of Smith and Osborne (2008). Findings: In this study, 6 main themes were identified in women's experiences: 1) the meaning of being a daughter in-law before marriage; 2) the meaning of being a daughter in-law after marriage; 3) Being a daughter in-law during the transition from engagement to permanent marriage; 4) communication with the In-law family; 5) being a daughter in-law and wife's role and 6) being a daughter in-law and motherhood. The essence of the experience was "being a daughter in-law; a valuable experience mixed with difficulty". Conclusion: According to the findings, it seems that women consider marriage as an essential stage in life, which, despite the existing difficulties, also includes special values and privileges. The results can be used by families and therapists to enrich the relationship with In-law family.
