Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of parental wisdom in the parent-child relationship and their meta-parenting. The research project of solidarity and its community was all the parents of Yazd city, who were randomly selected in a multi-stage way, 150 mothers and 150 fathers with at least two children (one of the children in adolescence). They completed Ardlet's Intelligence, Pianta's Parent-Child Relationship, and Hawk and Holden's meta-parenting Questionnaires. Data were analyzed using correlation test and multiple regression analysis. Increasing the scores of the cognitive and reflective dimension played a role in reducing the conflict and the reflective dimension predicted dependence inversely. Also, higher emotional scores predict higher extra-parenting. The results of the separation of fathers and mothers showed that reflectiveness in fathers and emotionality in mothers can predict the intimacy of parent-child relationship, and an increase in reflection dimension in both groups of fathers and mothers leads to a decrease in parent-child relationship. The findings showed that increasing wisdom in parents can improve the parent-child relationship in general, and be a tool for their meta-parenting.
