Abstract

The purpose of this research is to predict infidelity based on personality traits and family cohesion among young couples. This research is descriptive and correlative in terms of practical purpose and data collection method. The statistical population of this research is all the young couples of Mashhad city in 1402. Among these, a sample of 248 people was selected by voluntary sampling method. The data of this research was collected by using Marital Infidelity Scale (ATIS), Family Cohesion and Flexibility Assessment Scale (FACES-IV) and Five-Factor Personality Questionnaire (NEO-FFI). In order to analyze the data, multiple regression has been used. The findings of this research indicate that the family flexibility component has been able to significantly predict infidelity, but the family cohesion component is unable to significantly predict infidelity. In addition, the personality components of conscientiousness, agreeableness, extroversion and neuroticism have been able to significantly predict infidelity, but the agreeableness component is not able to significantly predict infidelity. According to the findings of the research, it is suggested that with a preventive look at the phenomenon of infidelity, the field of increasing family cohesion in various dimensions, including social, economic and cultural policies, should be paid attention to by policy makers.
