Abstract

Electronic monitoring through using Global Positioning System (GPS) controls criminals from a ‎distance. It also provides the possibility of their systematic and limited presence in society while ‎they are serving their punishment. Relying upon a descriptive-analytical method, this article ‎analyses the effects of electronic monitoring against parents on children’s personality ‎development and the continuity of the family lives of criminals. According to the findings of this ‎study, electronic monitoring can‏ ‏serve as a family-oriented judicial decision. It is a more evolved ‎form of implementation of the principle of personalization of the criminal responses and confines ‎side effects of the punishment to the offender. Because electronic monitoring is associated with ‎considering the personality, capacity, responsibility and role of the offender in the family, it can ‎provide background for performance of his normal functions in the family and respecting the ‎rights of other family members. Ideally. It can result in family self-sufficiency, healthy personality ‎development of children and continuity of family life. In case when the offender under electronic ‎monitoring is far removed from his family, it can protect the family from probable unsuitable ‎behaviours of the offender and provide background for suitable interaction between him and ‎family member in the future‎.
