Mate selection is one of the most important decisions made by individuals during their lives. The present study was aimed at examining the validity and reliability and structure of Schwarz and Hassebrauck Mate Selection Criteria Inventory (2012) in Iranian culture. The present study was a survey to measure the factor structure of the instrument. The study sample consisted of 486 individuals who were selected from among university students through a partial sampling. The participants completed the Mate Selection Criteria Inventory (MSCI) and Mate Selection Criteria Priority Questionnaire. The results of fitting the confirmatory factor model showed that the 9-factor model of Mate Selection Criteria Inventory (MSCI) has an appropriate fit in Iranian sample. The value of Cronbach’s Alpha of the factors ranged between 0.51 and 0.91, and it was between 0.53 and 0.72 using retest method with an interval of 1 month. The correlation among the factors of MSCI and the factors of Mate Selection Criteria Priority Questionnaire was positive and significant. The results of the study show that the most important factors of mate selection in Iranian culture are respectively trustfulness, kindness, and understanding

The aim of the present research was to investigate the roles of defence mechanisms and self-concepts of married males and females in the prediction of their love stories. A correlation study was designed to evaluate the relationships. A population of 350 married students (20-45 years old) of Islamic Azad Universities of Tehran were selected based on non-random sampling method. The data was collected by Defence Style Questionnaire (Andrews, 1993), Sternberg's Love Story scale(?,?), and six-factor Self-concept scale (Stack, ?). Pearson correlation and multiple-variable regression by SPSS Software was used for data analysis. The research findings revealed a significant positive relationship between the sub-scales of self-concept and love story. Moreover, a relationship between defence styles and love stories was found. According to the regression results, subscales of love story could be predicted by defence styles and self-concept. These findings in the area of intimate relationships can be useful for couple therapists.

Due to the fact that proverbs in each society represent common beliefs and customs and norms, their careful examination can provide a better understanding of the quality of family relationships. The aim of this study is to analyze the quality of Iranian proverbs related to parent-child relationship. Proverbs containing the word mother, father, child and their synonyms were analyzed qualitatively. Eleven main categories were extracted: Special and exclusive status of parents for a child, fusion in parent-child relationship, qualitative difference between the role of mother and father, child rearing style, parent-child relationship competitions, parenting benefits, parental expenses, parenting child's equity, owning the child by parents, child's loss of empathy toward parents, owning parent's property, Qualitative difference between son and daughter. Each of these categories includes sub category. Based on the results, parent-child relationship is a significant relationship. Parents, in addition to their benefits, also have a lot of difficulties, which make children always feel guilty toward their parents. In proverbs, the parent-child relationship is so tangled and closely imaged that it makes it hard to imagine the existence of concepts such as boundaries and differentiation in this regard. Also, the mother's position for the child is superior to the father. In the traditional family, this greatly contributes to promoting the status of women in the family power pyramid. Sexual desire, financial interests and life threatening are the most important threats to the parent-child relationship. Thus, the parent-child relationship, which is considered to be the most pivotal relation of people in traditional society of Iran, is also not completely trusted and is negatively influenced by the individualism and benefit of the parties.

The aim of present study was to investigate the relationship between attachment dimensions and communication patterns of couples with preschool children’s play behaviors. This study was correlational and 360 children (198 boys and 162 girls) studying in Yazd preschool centers in 1395-96 academic year was participated in. They were randomly selected using multi-stage cluster sampling style. To measure the research variables, the Preschool Play Behavior Scale (PPBS), Kinship Center Attachment Questionnaire (KCAQ) and Communication Patterns Questionnaire- Short Form (CPQ-SF) were used. Results showed that, the highest amount of play was social play and the lowest amount of play behaviors was reticent behavior. The results of stepwise regression analysis showed that attachment dimensions and communication patterns of couples in some cases can predict children’s play behaviors. Positive adjustment development predicted social play positively and predicted reticent behaviors negatively. Negative behaviors positively predicted rough play and solitary passive behaviors. The dimension of distancing from attachment figure support also predicted reticent behaviors positively. The patterns of man demand/woman withdraw predicted solitary passive behavior positively. For solitary active behaviors, no significant relationship was found with other variables.

Intellectual disability is considered to be a developmental disorder that has a great impact on the family, especially mothers. The aim of the present study was to develop a parenting program based on the study of mothers of children with intellectual disability. To develop the program in a qualitative method, the mothers’ lived-experiences were explored through in-depth interviews with 12 mothers of children with intellectual disability. The main themes of the experiment were discovered through the Colaizzi method. Then, based on the main discovered themes, a review of all parenting methods and related programs (presented in various books and articles) was devoted to the development of parenting sessions. Finally, the parenting program designed using the focal group methodology between the specialist counselors of Yazd Schools of Special Needs and the CVR coefficient for each session was calculated and the program was agreed on. Hence its content and formal validity were confirmed. Findings from the lived-experiences of mothers of children with intellectual disability were summarized in 7 main themes (experience of blame, future worries, child behavior problems, interruptions in interaction, hot and social isolation, negative thoughts and feelings, and positive achievements) and 16 themes encoded as subgroups of the main themes. After that, the parenting program based on the experiences of mothers of children with intellectual disability was developed using the main components of compassion therapy and positive parenting method in 9 sessions. Since the design of this program has been used by experiences of mothers as main audiences as well as a comprehensive review of the scientific resource to meet their needs, and all training sessions have been reviewed and approved by relevant professionals, this caused that the program be designed to have acceptable content and formal validity and can be effective on the development of children with intellectual disability their families.

Since the design of this program has been used by experiences of mothers as main audiences as well as a comprehensive review of the scientific resource to meet their needs, and all training sessions have been reviewed and approved by relevant professionals, this caused that the program be designed to have acceptable content and formal validity and can be effective on the development of children with intellectual disability their families.</OtherAbstract>

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of parenting acceptance and commitment therapy on parenting self- efficacy among mothers who have children with externalizing behavior problems. The research method was semi-experimental with pretest- posttest design and a control group. The research population was all mothers who have preschool children with externalizing behavior problems in Isfahan. The statistical sample included 30 mothers who were voluntarily selected regarding entrance criteria and randomly assigned into experimental and control group (each group included 15 subjects). Parenting acceptance and commitment therapy program was held for the experimental group during 10 sessions (each session lasted 90 minutes), while the control group received no intervention. The research instrument was parental self-agency measure (PSAM) that was conducted in pre-test, post-test and follow-up sessions for both groups. Descriptive statistics (mean & standard deviation) and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The results of the repeated measures variance analysis showed that parental self-efficacy has increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group. So it can be concluded that acceptance and commitment based interventions may increase parenting self -efficacy and lead to more satisfaction of parenting functions.
