Family professionals need to be aware of the cultural impact on their clients’ cognitions to understand them better and provide better services. The study of proverbs in any language can provide a fairly accurate picture of the attitudes and beliefs of people belonging to that cultural context in relation to different subjects. Therefore, in this research, extracting all Iranian proverbs with related keywords (wife, husband, spouse, and marriage) and their thematic analysis, we tried to extract the assumptions and standards related to the role of woman, husband and marital relationship. The three main themes and a core theme were extracted. According to the results, existing standards for women are more numerous and rigorous than standards for men in marriage. Marital relationship is also portrayed as a very important, predestined, relationship with numerous conflicts which are frequent, inevitable and insurmountable. That makes it appear bitter and frustrating in the long time. The extracted standards show that couple are expected to play complementary roles in marriage and men have dominance over women. فرض­ها و استانداردها در تعیین رضایت همسران از زندگی زناشویی نقش مهمی دارند و هر دو تحت تاثیر فرهنگ هستند. لازم است متخصصان خانواده، برای درک بهتر مراجعان و ارایه خدمات بهتر، از تاثیراتی فرهنگ بر شناخت­های آنها مطلع باشند. مطالعه ضرب­المثل­ها در هر زبان می­تواند تصویر نسبتا دقیقی از نگرش­ها و اعتقادات افراد متعلق  به آن بافت فرهنگی نسبت به موضوعات مختلف ارایه کند. بنابراین در این پژوهش با استخراج کلیه ضرب­المثل­های ایرانی دارای کلیدواژه­های مرتبط (زن، شوهر، همسر، ازدواج) و تحلیل تماتیک آنها سعی شد که فرض­ها و استانداردهای مربوط به نقش­های زن، شوهر و رابطه زناشویی استخراج گردد. سه تم اصلی و یک تم کلی استخراج گردید. بر اساس نتایج، استانداردهای موجود برای زنان هنگام ازدواج متعددتر و سخت­گیرانه­تر از استانداردهای مربوط به شوهران است. رابطه زناشویی نیز به عنوان یک رابطه بسیار مهم، مقدر و پرتعارض به تصویر کشیده شده است که در آن تعارضات مکرر و اجتناب ناپذیر و غیرقابل حل وجود دارد که باعث می­شود در دراز مدت تلخ و خسته­کننده به نظر برسد. استانداردهای استخراج شده نشان می­دهد که در زندگی زناشویی از زن و شوهر انتظار می­رود نقش­های مکمل هم را ایفا می­کنند و مردان بر زنان سلطه داشته باشند. https://jfr.sbu.ac.ir/article_97823_34735c76cc4819d3d313a57ef9b13317.pdf
