[English]

Reality therapy as a common method and Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy (SERT) as a novel approach are considered in couple therapy. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of reality therapy and socio-emotional relationship therapy on coping strategies in couples. This study followed a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest and control group. The statistical population were the couples who referred to private counseling and psychological services centers in Ardabil in 2016 because they suffered from conflict. 45 couples were selected accessibility. Then they were divided into three groups randomly. The dependent variable (coping strategies) was evaluated through questionnaire before and after the therapy periods. Subjects of experimental groups received ten sessions of 90-minutue. To analyze the data, the MANCOVA was applied. The results of multiple analysis of covariance indicated that there was a significant difference among three groups in posttest scores of seeking social support, plan-problem solving, accepting responsibility, distancing and escape-avoidance (P< 0/01). The results of Tokey test showed that the mean score for plan-problem solving, accepting responsibility in reality therapy and mean score for seeking social support, distancing and escape-avoidance in socio-emotional relationship therapy group was significantly different in compared to mean scores in control group (P< 0/01). Reality therapy and socio emotional relationship therapy can increase applying of seeking social support, plan-problem solving and accepting responsibility and can lead in decreasing of distancing and escape-avoidance. Thus, couple counselor experts can use this therapy for improving coping strategies between couples.
